Hello, I have a 1983 Ford Ranger with a 351windsor and an AOD transmission. I recently finished up putting it all together. It ran fine and smooth, then when I went to test drive it I had no gears. Absolutely nothing, well Park and Neutral work. The transmission came with the truck and I didn't touch it except changing the filter and I cleaned up the torque converter. I don't think its a fluid issue because i was running it at about 11.5 qts and my manual says it takes 12. I pulled the tranny out because I read that improper seating could cause no gears, although my father and I are pretty sure we seated it right, but maybe not. The torque converter was stuck on, after some time with some slide hammer it popped out. I noticed on the end of the torque converter shaft it had a bur on the end where one of the notches are. I tried to research it, but I found no results. I don't know much about transmissions, but I don't know what in the world is the problem! I would rather not replace the tranny, so i'm going to clean up the bur, seat it again and install it. Maybe it will work, any advice or help is appreciated! Thank you.

Unfortunately I think you broke the Front pump(main pump) when installing transmission to engine.

When installing an automatic to the engine block you have to put the torque converter in to the transmission then rotate it while pushing it in, it will click in, then keep turning you will get a second and sometimes third click, these "clicks" are the torque converters ring/shaft lining up and locking into the front pump.

Now when you bolt the bell housing to the block the torque converter should not touch the flexplate you should be able to get all the bell housing bolts tight and torque converter should still be movable.
Then you rotate torque converter to line it up and bolt it to the flexplate, it will slide forward slightly.
If torque converter has studs then line them up with flexplate holes as trans and block mate

If you don't do it this way then when you tighten up the bell housing bolts you force the torque converter into the transmission and break off the Front pump's engagement

EDIT, Found the video of the torque converter install for AOD:
