My credo
If it's not broken Don't Fix It!
For years now I have been handy with repairing PC's, both diagnosing and repair, so much so that when friends have issues I get a call. Well today without my fore knowledge I had a laptop dropped off because it was stuck in the endless boot/try to repair cycle. It was planed that I wound go there and deal with it but hey what ever, at least it is getting done right?

The person that dropped it off is a good friend and often lets me use his property for repairs on my ranger, heck it was his brother that originally purchased the Ranger from the dealership back in '94. It turns out back when Microsoft had put out an update that locked PC's into an endless loop of repair/ blue screen ( system 1 initialization failure ) some time after 8/2019 this unit got nailed by it. Because many do not keep up on issues that Microsoft creates nor do they have the experience with installing/ repairing a non-bootable OS's they just send it to a repair shop that nails them with a $60+ bill to usually do either a system restore or system repair that is available for free by downloading the operating system installation to either a flash drive or DVD disk. If you don't have one kicking around you really should do so so repairs are quick, no waiting to download the installation, and easy repairs for when the unit will not boot into the OS.

Well If you do need to have your laptop/Notebook repaired it is best to drop off the charging cord and transformer with it because not everyone will have the proper pack to charge your unit. I'm currently stuck at installing windows Updates due to the battery being so low that windows will no longer update. The battery needs to be above 40% or be plugged in to install any updates, this is only windows as drivers can still be updated. Be sure to put your name on it and always be sure to collect it again after. These things help speed the process of the repair kinda like having the door open on your truck all day and the interior lights on. Once the battery is low it wont start so you need another power source in order to keep moving forward on the fix. Instead of him getting his laptop back this afternoon/evening it wont be till tomorrow because I need to wait on getting the charger.

Anyone else have crap randomly show up to be fixed?

I went out to my truck one day and found a flat tire in the bed. I took it to work and had one of the guys fix it and put it back in my truck. 2 days later, the tire wasn’t in the bed of my truck anymore. I assumed it was my neighbor’s, but I didn’t know for sure until a week later.

Whenever I've had problems with "the computer stuff" I have been told to gather the following...
Blood of three virgin ants....
A one leaf clover...
The remnents of the bottom of an RC Cola can thats at lerast 7 days old, but not older than 9 days...
Mix these all togather into a paste and, under the first full moon that falls on a Thursday, slather the paste on the offending item.
This will revive it and hopefully bring it back to working condition.

Last night I went to drop off a battery for my neighbor`s mower. That turned into most of today being eaten up in chasing parts to rebuild and mod his carb, including chasing electrical issues in my mower and another neighbor in the process.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Thats the wonderful thing about my work schedule. I work every other weekend. So, when everybody is doing their weekend stuff and needing help, I’m (blissfully?) at work and unavailable.

Last night I went to drop off a battery for my neighbor`s mower. That turned into most of today being eaten up in chasing parts to rebuild and mod his carb, including chasing electrical issues in my mower and another neighbor in the process.
Long version:

I have two neighbors, Justin and Bob. Justin knows how to cut grass, Bob fixes mowers but isn't great with electrical. I am good with both electrical and mechanical, but marginal with carbs.

Last week Justin got a ride on mower from his uncle, it's been sitting for a while and the battery was shot. I took him the so-so battery from my one tractor, put a new battery in mine, and took his dead unit for the core. While I was there he asked me to look at a fuel drip. Took the air filer cover off, engine is full of gas. Cleared the cylinder, plugged off the fuel line, found his needle and seat were nasty, and his shutoff solenoid sticking.

This morning we went down to the mower shop to try and get a needle and seat, nobody lists parts for this carb. A needle and seat that looked close enough and a shut-off were more than a whole carb and they didn't have it, so we went home to consult Bob. I found Bob with his JD torn apart because it won't crank. We found one of his safety switches dead, and fixed that, but the electric PTO is still acting sketchy. He polished the needle a bit, found us a bowl bolt to delete the fuel shut off on Justin's tractor, now it starts and runs choked, but not off-choke, so the carb is soaking in gas and Marvel.

In between all that I replaced my own battery, still had to jump start, got most of the way through mowing before it just died and wouldn't restart and nothing worked at all. Apparently I didn't get the main battery ground hooked on to the bolt when I put the battery in. Still not sure how it ran at all since the generator is marginal.
