Hey guys.

I destroyed the driver side axle seal in my 1992 STX last summer. Just changed it a month ago along with the U joint on the side (frozen). Other side was fine.

I still have auto hubs. Drivers side one, all the grease is hard and it does not lock. I have a set of Warn's coming to me possibly.

The other day I was on a trail and poped it in 4x4 to get up a hill. Pounded up the hill fine (drivers front hub ratcheting the whole time).

At the top of the hill I turned around and heard a big BANG.

Nothing broke but no my drivers axle seal is gone AGAIN >:O

The first time I was in mud, was making te Banging noise repeatedly with the wheels going strait.

WTF is going on here?

I'm guessing the banging was the auto hub not engaging properly.
Did you make sure the seal was seated all the way into the housing?

Perhaps the portion of the shaft that the seal rides on is damaged or scored? Is the seal leaking or FUBARed?

From what I can tell it's just leaking as yes it was fully seated.

Didn't leak until I used the 4x4...

Last one the metal wasnt bent, just the rubber was torn off the metal part. Axle was not scored.

Was it frozen? The last one that failed me was when I was sitting in ice water and I guess some ice formed on it and tore it.

the purpose of those D35 axleshaft seals is too leak.

I've replaced 20 or 30 or so of them, both sides.
