Another Center Console Build

[Hazmat Ranger]

Ok - a while back I sold my fiberglass center console with the 10" sub in it and began building a new one. I do not have early build pics but here is the final stages. Not complete yet but close enough to show off.

Materials used: Brushed Aluminum, Polished Stainless Steel, Dark Brown Leather and Sting Ray Leather on hardboard and fiberglass base. The leather shifter boot was hand-stitched by me also.

Here are the pics:

I have to fabricate the lid for the storage area and mount all of the aluminum parts with decorative screws - I was thinking polished torx or allen screws.

The embossed HR is for Hazmat Ranger.

yeah they do make them that small - see the air ports in the bottom.

I am going to make a skeletal frame that has a wooden crossmembers that I will use to attach the lid material, hinge and magnets to. The sides are going to be aluminum and will sit into the storage space, with the magnets helping to hold it down.

I too was happy with my first one and slowly I found my self wanting something different - I have another thread in here on my first one - all fiberglass with a 10" sub-woofer. This one will have 3" subs in the polished tubes . . .

i think allen screws would look better than torx personally.

I used Kreg pocket screws - they have a square socket in the top - they look good. Thanks man . . .

I will be posting more pics as soon as I get this lid covered and attached. Biggest suggestion I can give you is to take your time and make sure it is right the first time - no worse feeling than knowing you could have done it better. Good Luck

Ok - so I got the lid wrapped and attached. I have a few things left to do like secure the shifter boot to the shifter, hook up the switches and some dress up pieces made from polished aluminum.

All of that can wait until after my vacation. But until then here are the current pictures.

Below is a close up and you can see the pocket screws I used - I like the way they look.

Here you can see the lid structure - all aluminum with wooden ends (covered).
The underside will be covered and so will the inside of the storage area.

So there she is - now I have to figure out what I am going to do with the rest of the interior to match this exquisite console - LOL.

Amazing skills man! I don't think i could ever get leather to stretch like that and look that flawless! the HR logo is what really sets that thing off. In the last picture where the back of the lid meets the console, is that a gap or is that just due to the inside not being finished?

If you need some more insight take a look in the tech library for the build of my first console that was 95% fiberglass. I also noticed you are from Canton - we were just there on Saturday for the madhouse.
