the need of the employee will come again as things ramp up after it is all over. Now for the question... How necessary are you (or your friend) to the big picture once things are going again? My guess is that this pandemic is going to be the catalyst for a huge employee purge... as in "we found that we really don't need x number of employees to do this job" and the employees that don't get along well with their bosses are going to top the attrition list.

Those was my thoughts exactly. I have been taking up the slack of the afraid to work.

With how cut-throat some of these companies are, I would say quite a bit of them are always running with the lowest amount of labor possible. Especially awful retail, they are always running below the minimum for what is needed

Some of these people are essential BUT they can survive without them for a few weeks. My dad works for the FDA and he is off work because he is 72 and they told everyone over 65 to stay home so they are running a skeleton crew at his place. They can't do that for very long though. Maybe 2 weeks tops. So yea he's not working but in 2 weeks they will be overrun and need him back. I on the other hand am completely non essential, i work from home but am getting swamped with folks trying to get stuff welded because what else do they have to do but get their boats in the water or fix their old cars? I've only done two jobs in the past 10 days but i could be working my ass off. I just don't want the plague victims at my house...
