I bought a used 3.0 liter Ranger which came with an aftermarket high volume air intake filter. I built a cold air intake box around it to help performance on hot summer days. I am also wondering if an uprated intake tube would help. Anyone know? And if so, where would I get one for a decent price?

I literally stepped over a snorkel at my local yard a few weekends ago. I've seen some made out of PVC pipe. Depends on the look you want when finished. Someone somewhere put a Land Rover snorkel on their Ranger.

If I had your luck, I would certainly pick it up and take it home. May I ask if your performance is any better for it? Or was the change mostly cosmetic?

I just moved this over to General Discussions...

@ecgreen knows a couple things about dorkels... opps snorkels.

I think they have their place... more for water fording then performance.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
I created my own. Ordered aluminum intake tubing, flexible elbows, clamps and a snorkelly thingy all from ebay. It's not an easy project. But doable.

Yes, Sorry Uncle Gump. I meant to ask about the air intake tube, the part between the throttle body and the filter.

My Ranger has a broken Lifter Spring and the lifter fell down in the cylinder, I think. Haven't tore the motor down yet to see what all has failed. It's been sitting for a while now. But that is about to change this summer.

Nobody wants that kind of luck.

Don't be. My sorry a$$ is the one who let it sit for so long. I should be ashamed of myself, but I'm not. lol. About the time my Ranger went down, I acquired a little D21 https://www.therangerstation.com/forums/index.php?threads/88-nissan-850-d21-hardbody.183427/
Looks like that D21 has a lot of potential. I drove a little Isuzu for years, a very solid little truck.

Maybe that valve spring problem is yet another perfect opportunity. If my engine would fail I would go out and buy a new all electric crate motor from Ford. It seems as though it's made to bolt right into older trucks and conventional drives.

I already have a V8 donor, but ...electric is the wave of the future
