351 4 bbl.

Or mega squirt.

Whatever is cheaper for those two options ...is the best option.
351 is more my style but if i wanted to get 10mpg id just drive the 250 everywhere lol

I thought speedo was associated with the output speed sensor(on tranny), rather than the vehicle speed sensor(on top if differential), but im not 100% sure on that it may be the reverse, one of them is definitely connected to the speedo

Right. But the older trucks didnt have anything on the diff, only the trans.

Gotcha......i used a handheld mirror at times while changing mine, helped me see the orientation of the bolt holding down the sensor.. ...the mirror also helped me see that the fitting for the bolt head is a star shape screwdriver type fitting, not a socket type bolt, at least on mine it was that way(yr 2001), the one on the transmission , the output speed sensor, sometimes called the trans range sensor

Some of the early (late 1st gen, and newer) trucks have a rear ABS sensor on the rear axle but that's all it does, rear ABS.

All of them after '85 or so have a gear that drives the speedometer from either the t-case output or trans tailshaft. There is a speed sensor attached to that. As mentioned it's used for 4x4 shift and some other things... has nothing to do with the speedometer until the late 90's when electronic speedometers were used.

Ok new devlopment....

Today it did it...bad. After about a 5 hr shutdown and roughly 2 mi of driving. Went to pull into traffic on 127 and everything seemed normal till i got the clutch out...all of a sudden it started puttering bad...like...thought it was gonna stall. Slightly panicked i rammed it to the floor and it came right out of it and peeled some rubber off my brand new A/T's

But it never did it again on my little 14 mi round trip.

Im gonna try swapping igntion modules this week...if it was fuel related id think hammering it woulda just made it quit.

it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
Wiring or pcm issue or both .

Check the temp sensor wiring and what it reports the pcm
