Hi guys. I'm about to do a 4.0 swap but need a better A4LD. I have one on line from a 4wd Aerostar but don't know if I can swap a 1354 onto a trans with a TC28.
Is this swap possible or not worth doing? :icon_confused:

Yeah, it's a viable swap. Only thing your gonna have to swap is the shifter lever and TV lever. Everything else is good.

Um... I forgot to mention... You don't NEED to take appart the whole trans to change the shifter shaft...
#1: Drop the pan and filter
#2: remove all the old gasket from the transmission pan rail (transmission case)
#3: locate the shifter lever... notice the big nut. Loosen said nut
#4: Remove the pin that is holding the shaft in. It is inserted into the case from the lower side of the case on the pan rail. Use diagonal cutters to "gently" grasp and lever the pin out.
5#: Remove the big nut and and the "Z" link "should detach from the spool valve it's connected to.
#6: Remove both the shifter and TV shafts.

Assembly is in reverse order.

And, always a good thing.... PICTURES!!!

Now, It's been some time since I last did this... but I'm sure that if you have the ability to replace the transmission, you have the ability to change these parts.
If you want to make it a little easier, you CAN remove the valve body... just make sure you make note of where each and every bolt comes from (they are different lengths)!
Good luck and feel free to msg me if you need more help.

Wow. I'm impressed. Did not expect pictures. :icon_surprised:
My initial concern was with replacing the TC28 on the Aerostar trans with a 1354 but that doesn't seem much of an issue. I had intended on doing the front seal as well as the gasket & filter so I was going inside the thing anyways. I haven't asked my parts guy yet about a shift kit. Your pix and directions make this easier than I might have expected. I hadn't actually contemplated that the shifter shaft might be different.
So again, thank you.

And cool. The guy finally responded to my $100 offer, I'll pick it up Saturday. :D
Beats the $300 and up everybody else wanted for Ranger / Explorer stuff.

A4LD shifter linkage challenge

Trying to replace a broken shifter lever on our B2 and having trouble getting the pin out. Any ideas on how to successfully remove this pin?
