This is about the only part on earth I'd recommend getting the cheap dorman replacement because even the Ford ones suck and they cost 5 times as much. It's gonna fail either way so no point spending money at the dealer.

Just turn on MAX AC after you start the engine when coolant is cold, just turn Fan speed down
Heater core should never heat up
The lowest speeds are dead. Have been for a long time....top two speeds were the only ones I used anyway. They worked fine, so I never worried about it.

Either way, I'll check when I'm not driving.

Yes, max ac works very well, even after the engine warms up. Everywhere else is hot. Where the air comes from does work according to the selector.
I guess that means it IS the blend motor or blend door, right?

The ticking I've been hearing, on and off for years.

Test it after removing? With 12 volts or continuity?
Unless the gear is just broken.

Thanks

If your issue in the end does turn out out be the door then you'll need a dremel tool kit with a narrow routing tip to cut the hvac plastic.

I've gotta see what it takes to get the motor out.

Heater Treater has a metal door for mine, if I need one. $119. Might be worth it, if I need one..... haven't looked yet. I have some other chores to do first.

I thought all the hvac doors were vacuum operated back then.

I saw a youtube video of a way to cut the evap box enough to access the door. Showed how the clip on the lever breaks and the door will slide off of the lever.

The vent doors are all vacuum but on 1993+ the blend door that separates the heater core from the AC evaporator core is controlled via an electric motor.

$120...that's getting desperate, the Dorman piece is a decent item for $14, the interlock at the top of the door arm is cast metal, it won't break off like the OEM plastic door does.

I'd certainly rather buy the doorman, but how long will it last? I don't wanna do it ever again. You're saying the metal at the top of the dorman makes a big difference?

Vacuum vent doors are 1995 and up for Rangers, that's when Ranger's got Knobs on the Climate controls
1994 and earlier use cable operated vent doors and Temp control, and Sliders instead of knobs

Electric Temp Door actuator was also 1995 and up
This says the blend door was electric in 93, that's what I was going by. :dunno:
