Abs moduel bad ?

Hey yall , my 95 4.0 4x4 is having stopping issues. My abs light flashes and occasionally stays on after a hard stop . Flip of a coin with short stops sometimes if feels as if the pedal shudders and my wheels are locking. I can even hear a squelch on one tire . We just did rotors and bearings (front and rear ).
Help what could be the issue

Is the fluid level ok? Do you have 4wheel abs? Are all cables connected properly?

Fluid level is at max . I believe I have 2 wheel abs. Yes i was able to disconnect to reset and light but still after a few stops the flashing returns

That's 4 wheel abs. The pedal "shudder" is the system activating the pump. Since you just did rotors, did you get the correct rotors for 4 wheel ABS? Did you damage or move the sensors? The flashing light also means a code should be stored, most scanners won't read ABS codes but I believe autozone or advance autos free scan will pull an ABS code.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure when 4-wheel abs started. Sounds like a sensor/tone ring issue to me, but didn’t want to lead him astray.

Dang really crap my rotors when purchased I did two wheel not 4 because the third line went to the axles and split . Crude ... so change rotors again ?

The bearings is what lead to the repair . The tone ring wasn't set fully and there was a groove worn on driver wheel sensor . I didn't replace . Should I tear down and replace rotor and sensor ?

The rear ABS only uses one sensor on the differential so it doesn't require 2 individual lines from the pump. That's why the pump has one for the rear and 2 for the front. If you put front rotors on designed for rear ABS only (2 wheel abs) they do not have tone rings for the sensors to read. If a sensor fails to read the truck thinks that wheel is locked up and activates the ABS pump.

Yes... Sensors can't work if they are ground down lol. Replace the bad sensor.

Okay thank you I'll check which rotors I picked up . And get on the sensor. Do I need new tone rings if mine are in decent shape ? I used the old ones on the new rotor which I believe I picked up (2 wheel abs rotor ) the wrong ones from what your saying

If the tone ring is on the hub assembly then the rotors are probably not different between 2 wheel and 4 wheel abs. (On some rangers the tone ring is actually part of the rotor, this is when its important to get the right ones).

But the sensor definitely needs to be replaced regardless.

I'm not super familiar with pre 1998 4x4 trucks. Where is the tone ring located? Is it on the back of the rotor, or does your truck have sealed unit hub wheel bearings? I'm kinda confused here because I'm fairly certain on that year the tone ring should be on the back of the rotor, and they aren't designed to come off. There shouldn't be any depth to set, it's either on the rotor or not...

It is on the rear and it was two pieces when we took it off . I heading to the part store to see if I can have parts pulled for me. Thank you for all you help
