Hello,

I have a 1993 Ranger with an A4LD and the electric transfer case.

I've done some research about what transmissions to swap in, I just had a few questions about everything that would be needed for the swap.

Basically my questions were if the transfer case I have would hook right up to the transmission easily, how the pedal mounts inside of the truck since I have an automatic, and if there was a punch out plate for where the lever would go.

I was also interested in putting a manual t-case since the shift motor has had problems on my truck, and what swapping that over would entail.

Thanks

Your tcase will work perfectly.

You will need a floor plate for the manual shifter, and a slightly different one for a manual tcase/manual transmission.

Pedals are just a matter of removing the dash (easy) and unbolting them from the firewall.

Did they change that bracket on later trucks between manual and auto?

M5OD-R1 is a "model" of transmission, not what it fits

You need an M5OD-R1 that matches your engine model, and for a 4x4

2WD transmissions can't be bolted to a transfer case, so M5OD MUST BE a 4x4 transmission

In 1993 there were 3 engine models
2.3l SOHC
3.0l Vulcan
4.0l OHV
So M5OD MUST match your current engine model

You also need flywheel to replace flexplate, also matching your engine model

Your current transfer case has speedometer cable hookup which you need in a 1993 Ranger
Transfer cases with speedometer cable hookups were available up thru 1997
1998 and up won't have that
So manual transfer case needs to be 1997 and older

Thanks for all the help.

I'd also probably have to get a different drive shaft as well wouldn't I?

The one bolted to the firewall.
The pedal bracket? I'm kind of assuming that manual and auto pedal brackets are different in 89-94 but I guess I have never tried putting an auto brake pedal on a manual pedal bracket or vise versa. Would be easier to just swap the pedal instead of the whole thing. I should try it, I need to put an auto brake pedal in my '94 Explorer.

I had a guy argue with me on Facebook about it awhile ago and you suggesting swapping the bracket had me wondering if maybe I was wrong.

I just swapped pedals on mine, I rechecked it tonight and the part numbers are 110% the same between my two brackets. Seems to work OK.

That would sure be a lot easier than pulling the dash... especially on a 1st gen. Getting my fat head in there to see what I'm doing might be a slight problem. I've always just swapped the whole assembly...but I've also always had the dash out for other reasons while doing so.

It sounds like I've got a lot more research to do.

Do you guys think there is just a spot to mount up the clutch pedal on that bracket?

You can swap the manual pedals onto the Auto bracket without pulling the dash. You need to unbolt the E brake pedal (leave the cable hooked up) and set it on the floor to get the extra room needed to install the clutch pedal.

Oh seems pretty easy, I was wondering if you guys think I should get a junkyard or get a rebuilt one from Jasper?
