I have a 1990 ford ranger, 2wd, 4L w/A4LD AT. I found a 1990 Aerostar, 3L, with AT. Will the aerostar AT fit into my ranger?

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem
The bell housings will not interchange. You could swap bells and pumps if the 4.0 is still good. Not sure of the position of the shift lever is the same on both. Been years since one came across my bench.

How about this one? a AT from a 1991 ford ranger with a 2.3L engine into my ford ranger with the 4L?

Can I swap the bell housings on a 2.3 a4ld with the bell housing on a 4.0 a4ld? also, are both transmissions the same internally?

If you change the bell housing/ pump assembly and it is a 2wd it will work. Use the converter from the 4.0 also.

If i'm not mistaken, the 2.3L will have lesser/weaker internals or at least t hat's what I've always read in researching. With the additional hp/trq of a 4.0 on a already not great trans from a 4cyl, may as well leave it up on the stands and finish killing it while in the air

Zero, I've heard the same thing but I don't see it in the replacement parts. All have the same part number and none of the rebuild kits mention from what engine did the transmission come from. Thank you and Transman for your responses.

How about a C5 or C3 from an older Ranger or Bronco 2? They came with either from 83-85 if I recall. My 84 had a C5 in it.
