Thanks CopyKat. That is pretty much what I plan to do. Hey, is that orange hose your axle vent or dry nitrous? LOL.

Pull the molded horn off the air box and pull the corrigated duct and the vaccuum actuator off and flip the horn around so that it is pointing back. Has worked fine for me for years with no problems.

i did that on my 92.

Yes it was. Right now I don't have a compressor because of the saginaw swap. I've yet to hook up the newer compressor I have.

I've thought about running the intake into the cowl but opt not to every winter. Now that I have the newer cowl vent I get less snow build up in there but I still get snow in there and then my dash looks like the hood when i turn the blower on.:dunno: So there is drawbacks. The only thing with my setup is steam. if you get any in the engine compartment from water crossing it will get sucked in and does choke out the engine some even with higher RPM's.

with stock air box locations, i believe only the 2.3/2.5 routes into the fender. The 3.0 and 4.0 come from behind the headlight as well as the 2.9.

i know earlier 2.3's had the same square air box that sucks from behind the headlight. just not sure what year they switched to the conical style that draws from the fender.

this is a '92. ive seen at least a '93 with that filter housing.

and the duratecs also have a square filter housing, never followed it to see where it draws its air though:

Yeah, you can lead a fish to water, but you can't teach a horse to fish.

My "fix"

This is what I did.

I removed all the external junk, and the vacuum canister. The mounts had been broken long ago. The air box was just sitting there. I then opened up the back.

I then made new mounts so that the box would be mounted solid.

I had a few gaps that were causing snow to come into the engine compartment so, I fixed them.

Below are the fixes.

I want to add a piece of small, light angle to the bottom of the first one.
I also need to do the same to the other side.
The 3/8 hose with the vacuum tee that you can see in the second pic is my axles/tranny/transfer vent.

It's not pretty but, It doesn't need to be.
It is raining now so I can't test it. We will have snow again within a couple weeks.

yes, as long as you dont over-oil the filter.

but, sticking a cone filter on the end of your MAF inside the hot engine compartment isnt a "cold" air intake. the factory intake is a true cold air system...you arent going to get more power with a cone filter.
