My credo

I know us northern folks gotta settle for what we can get as far as rust goes. But given the shadyness of the seller and the unknown mechanical issues I personally feel its overpriced even for a northern truck. If your dead set on it I would just definitely haggle more to get that price down. If he gets the brakes fixed before you buy it 1,800 isnt too bad.

If he fixes the brakes he said the price would go up. I'm not confident that he can fix the brakes because if he could why hasn't he? I'm not really set on buying but as far the body goes there isn't much rust( a plus) which is odd because the front bumper is badly rusted, as in the left corner is gone. He won't go any lower than $1800.

him not letting you take an extended drive is a deal breaker for me. rusted out spring hangers, weird electrical glitches, and an unknown serious issue in the brakes, that puts that truck in the "parts truck" category and pricing accordingly. for me, 1000 bucks tops, and that is only if the tires are near new and he just changed the pine tree air freshener in the cab.

Needs tires too, I sent a message to him that I declined to buy the truck. Search continues.

he is coming closer to the realization that he has a "parts truck" and not a daily driver....

Sounds like someone trying to get as much as they can for it because they either over paid for it or they are just a scumbag. $1800 is way too high for a truck with those issues and so many issues. You gotta figure how much it would cost to fix just the stuff you know about which the spring hangers can get pricey if you are fighting rust. Most northern trucks rust really bad at the end of the frame which is right where the hanger is mounted. so that could change the price a lot depending on if you can fix that or if you have to take is somewhere. The brakes sound like air in the lines or a small leak somewhere. I wouldn't give more than $800 for a truck with that many issues. I live in Ohio so I know what rusted out trucks go for and he's asking way too much. Search craigslist constantly. You will find a good deal.

Just the right size to touch the ground.
I paid $800 for my '01.

All I've had to do was:
new fuel pump
new radiator
new t-stat housing
new pistons & rings
mill the heads
bore and surface the block
new headgaskets with ARP studs
new bearings
new timing chains
new oil pump
new camshafts, valves, rockers, lifters and oil tube
new water pump
new torque converter
new clutches, steels and bands
new EPC solenoid, TSS sensor and solenoid harness
and a few other misc sensors, buttons, switches, fluids, hoses, belts and the like.

What a deal! LOL

In all seriousness though, a lot of that it didn't "NEED", but since I had to have both the engine and the trans apart, I figured it was better to go back as new as possible. I could have slapped a band in the trans and kept on going with the blown headgaskets and time bomb timing chains, but that wasn't a smart plan, IMO. I could have also just fixed the heads and the timing chains on the motor along with the trans and saved a ton, but at 268k on all of those parts, that didn't seem too smart either. I gambled on being able to fix it cheap and lost, but I still think I can sell it for more than I have in it. It's a solid little truck. I like it well enough I've scheduled a windshield replacement for next week and have a new Pioneer head unit on the way.

BTW, The truck had $800 worth of new tires on it when I bought it.
