Hello everyone, I am a new mechanic and I do towing on the side, one of my customers who is a personal friend had gave me his old 97 Ranger(3.0L 4 cyl RWD) and I’ve had it for a couple months and I want to swap out the old engine. I want to do a 5.0 swap so take the v6 out and put a v8 in. I have a couple of questions. What car should i get the engine from and will it need a transmission as well and what else would have to change in order for it to work. If i could get some options it would be appreciated, thank you

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
A 96-01 Explorer or a 5.0 T bird have the shortest front accessory drive, I used fox Mustang stuff and put my radiator inside the core support to get clearance. I used a C4 transmission because I had one, AOD's are popular, too. The transmission behind the 3.0 wouldn't live behind a 5.0 for very long.

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Besides that, the 3.0l bellhousing bolt pattern won't work and on the manuals (M50d) the bellhousing is integral - can't be replaced.
