Hey guys,

First post here. Just picked this truck up a week ago or so, and I was hoping I could get some help with a couple of issues I'm having. Luckily (or unluckily) they both have to do with the same part. I was in the middle of replacing the ECT sensor and sender on my 2.3. The temp gauge wasn't reading anything, so I just replaced both since it was cheap enough. I know the truck warms up, it blows hot heat so I'm just assuming it's one of the two. Anyhow, it seems I tugged a little too hard on one of the hoses trying to get the sensor out (ended up having to torch it + PB Blaster). The hose ripped out of its spot, taking the piece of plastic it slides over with it. As you see in the first picture (red arrow), there's now just a hole in this plastic hose junction piece. I was wondering what that part is technically called, and if I had to replace the whole piece or if just that end piece comes off. Also, there's a cap/cylinder looking thing on the back of that (yellow arrow in picture), that has a plug with one wire coming out of it. That piece has been leaking coolant since I got the truck, so I was also wondering what the name of that part was. I included a second picture that was taken from behind that piece, facing towards the front of the truck. Thanks, any help would be much appreciated.

Hey,

I had that same part break on me in the same spot while driving. I also wish I knew the name of it while on the side of the road. I took the part off and into an auto parts store and was able to get an aftermarket replacement. Pretty simple fix, just had to make sure to remove the broken plastic piece inside the hose. Hope this answer helps if anyone else ends up in a similar situation:

Yeah, that's the heater bypass valve, you must have air conditioning...

You have heat? I'm jealous, I finally got the coolant temp to go off the peg when under 50F outside on my '97 but still no good heat output... unfortunately it looks like I need a heater core which doesn't look fun...
