We did it on my 94, the hardest part is removing the carrier bearing support crossmember can stay in place

In the how to section, you just need one from the same wheelbase

For a 2WD truck, the driveshaft also needs to come from a '98+ Ranger Supercab having the same transmission type (stick or automatic).

Make the effort to physically check under your truck and measure it, then way you have knowledge of your own

Got ant aluminum 'shaft from a 2001 3.0 x-cab. Went right in. Getting the old one out was a bitch, with having to cut/grind the rivets off the carrier bearing mount. The bad news is, this didn't fix the low speed "shudder" or noise i am hearing. I think something in the rearend is going out....

you probably should have started your discussion that you were looking for the shake shutter rather than about replacing the drive shaft

this is what I went through with my truck in the end it was tires which is pretty hard, almost impossible to believe. but it was nearly new tires.that had really bad flat spots!

Well, i can hear this noise, & the shudder is at very low speeds, & usually while turning. Also, i have new tires. Im kinda thinking the shudder is actually the limited slip binding, like maybe somebody changed the rearend fluid & didn't put the limited slip additive in. Oh well, i guess my next "mod" will be a rearend.

Do the additive again! my 93 had it, I didn't believe it but they put it in just before I sold the truck the shudder stopped! I should have kept the damn truck it was probably the only ranger left that didn't have a rusty frame!

I have a pretty loud bearing noise coming from somewhere too. I think i am just going to swap the whole thing out & do the disc brake conversion. Then swap out the auto for a 5 speed. Then it will be the truck i wanted.

Went to the pull a part today looking for a rearend. Out of the 10 or so rangers that were there, only 1 had an 8.8 & it was an open diff with a 3.55 gear. It was an '01 4x4 with a sohc 4.0. Looked at several other trucks, most with a 3.0 auto & most were a 3.73 geared 7.5 with an open diff. I want to swap in an 8.8 with limited slip 4.10, but it looks like it will be hard to find one. Edit: my truck has a 3.73 geared 7.5 limited that is making fairly loud bearing noise, esp on decel, but you hear it all the time.
