Hey guys, I have 1993 Ford Ranger XLT SC. 4.0 engine, Automatic... Randomly all summer, spring and winter I will depress the 4x4 button and it functions. Today the lights not coming and on or engaging. No clicking either.

What should I look for? a fuse etc. Maybe check the locking auto hub, not sure ..
I'm still running the auto hubs, but haven't had any issues with them Just getting some ideas in what I should try first. Thanks

I'll try the tapping on the motor, and the auto hubs first.

93-94 were identical so that write up will help you tremendously in tracking down the area the issue is in.

Ok so I found that the transfer motor was the issue, I tapped on it a few times and it engaged, the 4x4 light came on as so did the actual 4wd.

Question is on the Rock Auto website there's listings for Transfer Case Motor and Transfer Case Motor with 4wd.

Isn't a transfer case motor for a 4wd. I'm a little confused.

I looked at the regular transfer case motors on the Rock Auto website and the 4wd transfer case motor and they look the same, am I missing something.

No. Only 4x4 has a transfer case. This means the t case motor is only on 4wd.

What's the worst that could happen?
Before you buy...
I'm sure you read the part about the 4by motor becoming inoperable because of non-use.

From your post it seems like that isn't the issue cuz you stated how you used it. Most folks - like me - have to be reminded to push the damn button every now and then to keep it functional.

You can pull it off and clean it up, clean up the plug ends of the harness, etc.
That might make it serviceable for a long while and save some cash.

That said, they're not that hard to RnR

Thanks, everyday when I take my truck out I depress the 4x4 button. It's been working fine in the last few days . I just have to remember to do it regularly. 😜🙃🤣
