Hi there,
Very excited about finally picking up my first Ranger tonight, a '92 XLT 4-cylinder with the R1 transmission. 165,000 miles, 2-owner truck with new clutch and tires. Almost completely bone stock, other than a Leer bedcap and kooky carpet job in the bed. California truck with Wisconsin tags.
Paid $1800 and I'm planning to on driving it for a while before deciding what to do with it. I'd love to upgrade to a 302 but I'm not sure how well it would fit, or what transmission I should go with. C4 maybe? Would love to lower the truck a little bit and get some Shelby wheels or something else cool.
I'm also planning to smooth out the few dints and dents, then maybe do something about the paint job. It's gold, which I'm not a fan of, but it has aged and I was thinking maybe a sand color like the old 70s F-150s, with a dark chocolate top on the cab.
For now I'm planning to check the brakes, exhaust, flush the tank and check all the lines. Everything appears to be in good working order and there's almost no rust, so I'm feeling like I might have scored here.
If anyone has any recommendations for mechanics or body work people in the D.C. region, I'd appreciate it. I'm planning to do most of the work myself, but not sure I have space for an engine swap here, so I'd appreciate recommendations for someone to do the work at a reasonable rate.
