This actually about a week ago, so I will start from the beginning.

So I am picking up a 1992 Ranger STX 4wd 4.0 next week! It has only 114k miles and in very good condition other than the paint on the hood and roof. Picking it up for $700 and at least half of that will be trade out work!

My plan is to build a nice exploration/motorcycle carrier truck! I want to do a small lift, some 31” tires on newer style Ranger rims, build a tube bumper with winch and a chase rack with a fold out sleeping platform!

Here is a pic of the Ranger, it has been sitting for about a year and a half!

I picked up my ranger today! Before I got there I picked up a set of new 235/75/15 tires on some black Jeep wheels. The old tires were shot!
After putting new gas in it and a battery it fired right up! Can’t wait to get working on it this week.

My first step, get rid of that 1990s ugly as hell Campershell!
Much better!

Does the truck look lifted in the back? That’s how high it sits with the five wheels and tires in the bed. Looks higher than normal to me.

Opened up the glove box and was really excited to find this. Not often people keep all the original manuals! Also just realized that the sunroof is a factory Ford sunroof!

I guess that is one way to get rid of the topper. Seems like there is always someone on here looking for one of those.

Lifted in the rear... hard to say. They have perceptible "rake" from the factory.

I'm pretty sure American Sunroof Corp (ASC) was doing the sunroof for Ford around then.

Cool find with the glove box literature... it's typically gone.

If the Campershell would have been usable I would’ve definitely sold it or gave it to someone that could use it. There was a couple baseball size holes in the back and not repairable.

I am thinking about picking up the Rough Country leveling springs, but it seems that my truck is quite a bit higher than a lot of factory Rangers. Will they actually give me any lift? I would really like to level out the front!

Also, I picked up a bunch of parts today. Figured it would give me some stuff to do over the next couple of weeks, especially if we get locked down from the Covid like California!

You can go a few different ways from where you're are at this point. You could gain a bit with a fresh set of Coils. If not enough... maybe the washer lift. Check out the Tech Library for info... lots to read.

If you haven't yet... check out @BlackBII build thread... good stuff going on in there... also @DRanger024 build thread has a bunch going on too.

Just saying... look around... make a plan... do it once.

looks like a great little truck. I used the mile marker hubs for a bit on my explorer. One time I warrantied them and the guy on the phone asked me all the specs of my truck- so I told him. Tires, lockers, etc. Then he said, "actually this is the last time we will warranty them because you are running non stock equipment." I was like, "whats all this used and abused world wide crap?". After that I got a set of warns. Napa replaces them with no questions asked right in store.

I really like your truck and the sun roof. It would look great with some 33s on it and your dirt bike in the back!

Looks like a good find! Those trucks are getting more rare by the day.

Can't wait to see this one progress!

Got a few things done on it today. Replaced all the wheel bearings with National bearing, replaced the brakes, replaced power steering pump and both lines. I also did the cheap washer lift until I can afford a 4” lift kit. Need to pick some alignment bushing up tomorrow.

I did one of the most unpleasant jobs you can do on a 4.0 today… Valve cover gaskets!
One benefit to removing all the items, cleaning them thoroughly and having a nice looking engine bay again! Not too bad looking for a car that sat for almost 2 years!
