I posted a while back about this truck not moving but got the shift cable adjusted and now it moves. problem is now it won't upshift to 2nd gear have'nt checked vacuum line to modulator yet but I was wondring if cable out of adjustment would do any damage to anything

Assuming A4LD automatic transmission
No, out of adjustment cable won't hurt anything...........unless you accidentally shift into reverse at 60mph, lol

Well as far asI know that didn't happen but who knows, truck belongs to my 22yr old grandson.
We rebuilt trans about 6 mos ago and was doing fine, says he was just driving along and it just quit going but he likes to do burnouts for friends.Anyway we adjusted cable and it will go in 1st and reverse but won't shift to second.Hope it's just a leaking vacuum line. Thanks for the input as I thought maybe cable out of adjustment may have something to do with it.

You didn't mention Drive(D)?

So is it not moving in Drive but does move in 1st?
That usually means the sprag(one-way) clutch failed, so full rebuild time
Drain and pull the pan, if you see metal flakes in fluid and pan then its rebuild time

Sorry I don't Get on here very often, but we fooled around with the truck again and checked modulator and vacuum. All seems well with that.He drove truck and it seems to shift through 3 gears but not to od.Will start out in drive or overdrive fine but won't upshift to od.Thinking maybe it may have something to do with vss. What say you all. Thanks
