So I have a 90 Ranger 2.3 A4LD i noticed when I have truck in gear or reverse lightly tapping gas and then brake the struck "chokes like it want to stall till the point it actually stalls(no codes stored code 11 system ok). RPM drop 500 for a mili second and go back up. This only happens when coming to a stop otherwise truck drive and revs great. Vaccum? (I can duplicate if i hit brake pedal repeatabley), Fuel filter? IAC? Just some more information I did an engine swap and the engine i swapped in came with a EGR that i just plugged lines as mines does not have an EGR.

Have you tried replicating the problem with the brake booster hose capped? Could be a leaking brake booster. Are the brakes hard to push? Is there a hissing sound when hitting the brakes?

Yes alot of air/hissing sound when hitting brake pedal but stops on a dime. Could I have vacuum line hooked up wrong?

Try removing the hose from the brake booster and plugging it. Then set the car to drive with the parking brake engaged (so it wont move on you). Depress the brake pedal and see if there is any change to the condition.

So I tried disconnecting the brake booster and plugging line and what do you know it stop check in drive and reverse. I will try some other things before pinning on booster but it definitely idles fine in drive and reverse with booster disconnected. Thanks again guys!

My credo
If it's not broken Don't Fix It!
Just an FYI any vacuum boosted break when depressed multiple times in a row will cause the idle speed to drop then rebound. Now it should not stall but it will drop then pick back up so after your tests and if you determine it is a vacuum booster that is bad be aware that after changing the booster what i just described, idle dropping low after consecutive presses to the brake, is normal but it should not stall.

Oh yes I fully rebuilt this thing from gorund up almost all new suspension, brakes new interior with dynamat insulation new carpet, speakers, trims. I even took most of cab off frame sanded down and re sprayed with rust preventive and replace most of body mounts. I probably spent 3 times worth the truck but at the end of the say it keeps me happy.
