with 1st gen broncos and 1st gen rangers being relatively almost the same width, would a 9" from a 1st gen bronco bolt onto a 1st gen ranger with little to no modifications? what about a 9" from a mustang?

the EB 9" is slightly wider than the 1st gen rangers, but it is marginal and will fit, as far as direct bolt in swap, I think the shock mounts are in a different location, and the perches are slightly different widths, but it should line up with the leaf springs without mods

and you really wouldnt gain much.other than the cool factor of having a 9 inch.unless your going to sink some cash in to it.

still going to have 28 spline shafts......

I owned a 74 ford maverick that had a 9inch rear end with 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern (the factory rims bolted onto a 7.5 and 8.8 rear end). Later sold it to my bro in law and he put it in a demo for me. Think it had spring under leaves though....that's just something to look into....

If you had a Mavrick with a 9" under it, it sure was not stock, sorry. Them things were lucky to have 140 hp. I did pull a 9" 31 spline rear out of a Pinto, narrowed but the PO had put a built 351/C-4 in it.

They did make them with v-8 engines. It was all stock came from my aunt who got it from an old lady who kept it in her garage for years before selling it ( my aunt blew up the original enigine and tranny).

But as far as a nine inch rear end, it had it.

:threadjacked:

Mavericks never received a 9" from the factory, even with a V8. They did however, receive an 8", which to the untrained eye can be easily mistaken for a 9".

To the original poster, the 9" from a early Bronco will not bolt in without moving spring and shock mounts. Most likely you would also have to do some modifications to make you're e-brake work. And your driveshaft won't bolt up. While none of this is really that big of a deal, it's not worth it for that style of 9". It had the weakest housing, 28 spline axles and small bearings. You'd be further ahead to drop a drum brake Explorer 8.8 in it.

Thanks guys, i think i'll go with the 8.8. The reason to asking the original question was i saw alot of 1st gen broncos going down the road and they look really close in width as the rangers. but it will be an 8.8 when i do my conversion from the 7.5
