Hey folks, I've looked around and can only find vague answers to this question. I know in 89 Ford changed the 2.9 heads to help keep them from cracking. All I can find in the tech section is "In 89 ford improved the head castings." My question, were ALL 89 model V6's equipped with this design, or did they go to this design after a certain cut-off date? I'm trying to figure out which head casting is on my 89 BII, and whether or not to plan for a future upgrade.

Thanks for any input.

I have seen a few supposedly late 88 MY 2.9s with the improved heads.

The problem with your question is age. With cars this old you don't know what has been messed with and what hasn't. I know my B2 has the good heads. I also know that it has already cracked a set of heads and they have been replaced. I do not know what it came off the show-room floor with.

Roger that, thanks guys. Was hoping to determine without having to pull the valve covers, but it wont be that much trouble. I don't THINK the heads have ever been changed, but I've only owned it about 10 years, so who knows.

That's one big reason I won't ditch my truck. I've had it from almost new and know almost everything ever done to it.
