Have you checked the compression? If it's low it can lack power and run worse before it warms up and everything expands.

The other thing to check is the engine coolant temp sensor, ECT. It tells the computer which fuel map to use based on the coolant temp.

No, it crossed my mind but I dismissed the temp sensor... My next thought was injectors and then the ecm.

Those codes it's throwing can be fixed with some resistors in the trans harness... it's expecting to see an automatic (presumably because you used an auto ECM, right?) and they are not present. The code 67 I'm not sure about, are any of the AC components present and/or working?

Coolant temp sensor is usually a good culprit for issues like that... make sure you don't have any air leaks in the tube between the MAF and throttle body too, not sure if I mentioned that before but unmetered air can do weird things.

Sorry, been busy today. Took the family to the lake this morning. This afternoon, while the wife was out riding her horse, I filled out my Fire Captain’s application. They’re gonna start making job offers in May. We’ll see if I make the cut!

Shran- I’ll swap the temp sensor out with the one from my parts truck. Hopefully that fixes it. I did inspect the intake tube, I didn’t find any. Yes, the motor came from an explorer with an automatic. I bought the truck with the swap started and I’m finishing it. The only part of the AC that isn’t hooked up yet is the compressor. I haven’t gotten around to trying to find the connector or adding the wiring if it isn’t there. The PO didn’t know how to finish the wiring to get it running. I knew with everyone’s help here I could figure it out. I found the limitations of my knowledge on wiring a long time ago lol. I appreciate the heck out of everyone who’s helped me!

Make sure it's the two wire sensor, the single wire one is for the gauge (y)

Ok, I swapped out the ECT and that helped. The engine stopped running as rich. It still had the hesitation and fell on its face, on acceleration though. So instead of visually inspecting all the vacuum lines again, I let it warm up and started pilling vacuum lines, plugging the port, then operating the throttle by hand. Turned out to be the vacuum line for the MAP sensor. I inspected it again and couldn’t see a hole but I replaced it and she runs right now.

I’m in the process of re-gearing the 8.8 right now. I broke my bearing puller, pulling the carrier bearings though. I’ve gotta run to Big R and buy grade 8 bolts. Everything has gone pretty smooth so far though.

So I’m at a stand still. The company that I bought the 8.8 gears and install kit from, has burned me again! They sent me a 3rd install kit, instead of a damned 4.56 R&P!!! They sent me a total of 2 8.8 install kits and an install kit for a freckin 14 bolt!!!

I ordered a diff guard and a reinforcement plate for the pass beam from a guy on another forum, for the D35. I plan to pick up a press Sunday and finish installing all the axle goodies. I’ll slowly start reinforcing the beams over the summer. I’m still waiting for my taxes so I can order the radius arms. I found a set of 63” leafs, I plan to pick them up Wednesday evening.

I will be ordering one of these this summer. I’m thinkin about swapping out the bumper from my rock crawler, onto this truck to plumb this in to. That would give me 7 gal of storage.

I went to HF to get a 20 ton press and they were sold out 😔
I did pick up a propane weed torch, an off-road light 40 amp wiring kit and one of those red hand pumps for oil. I was gonna try to get a little more done on the gears and lockers but I decided to hang out with my girls instead.

I didn’t get as much done as I had hoped, this morning. Installed the bearings, races and cleaned everything up. I had to deal with the Culligan water guy installing a reverse osmosis system and now I’m having to go to town to run some errands. I hope to get the rear end finished today.

Sounds like my experience lately trying to get parts; everything is out of stock or there are just incompetent people working where I am looking.

Is the MAP sensor left over from the 2.9? The 4.0 should only have a MAF on the airbox.

Right! That’s definitely a pandemic lol.

I don’t think it’s a leftover. I ordered it for a 91 Explorer. It’s running fine with it too.
