Pardon my ignorance, but, What do you do with the lion after you kill it?
My guess would be to mount it. Places like Bass Pro and other sporting goods are filled with that stuff(pardon the pun)

That's plum awesome there Rowdy

What about the meat, does it just go to waste? Or is that what's in my Nachos Bell Grande' ?

It’s all good bud! Well this one I’m going to get mounted because he’s a real good tom. I just finished skinning him and I’m going to put the hide in the freezer until I can afford to have that done. As far as the carcass, I butcher them at home like I do all my game animals so we can eat him. The meat is real similar to pork but doesn’t get all dry and grainy like pork does if slightly over cooked.
People have a stigma about it being cat and are afraid to eat it. But it’s actually very good meat. We now prefer it over venison.

Thank you Uncle Gump! It’s been a long hard ride and I’m going to keep on traveling this road.
PS: We’ve all ate some cougar, haven’t we! 😎

Went hunting again yesterday. Truck performed great. The snow started melting out around 8:00 and everything turned into a nasty sloppy mess. We found a bunch of deer but no lion sign. Had 4 dogs get stuck in leg hold traps. That trapper’s gonna be upset next time he checks his traps 😂. He was trapping bobcats and I tried to avoid the sets but hounds are like scent seaking fur missiles. I reset the second trap after the second dog was caught. Went back to the truck, put those dogs away, let others out and left right away. Got about 200 yards and realized one wasn’t there. Checked my tracking system and sure enough, she had went right to that trap I reset lol. Went back, got her out, reset it and showed my buddy how traps work. Got back to the truck and bam! Another dog got caught in a 3rd trap 100 foot from the danged truck! That was an illegal set because it was next to a road. I let that dog out of that trap but didn’t reset it. I left two triggered and reset the one. I left that area right away lol.

After we were done and I was airing back up, I noticed the spare tire was leaning weird. I hopped up on the dog box and found the spare tire mount had ripped out, half way. The metal around my weld tore out. I’ll get a picture today if I remember.

Went out yesterday. Tried to get into the country I was hunting in December and first part of January. The snow was crusted real bad. I kept breaking through and getting stuck. It would just sit on the axles. I tried to use the spare as an anchor but the winch pulled it right out of the snow. I then cut a log to use as a anchor. The first attempt failed too. On the second attempt, I cut the crusted snow out from in front of the truck and dug out the front axle. This proved to be the consistent process as I had to winch out 3 times.

You are in one hell of a place there Rowdy. Had you known it would be that much trouble would you kept on going? I spent about a week in Fresno once, around 1970, 72.
The Sierra Nevada is cool, far as mountain ranges go. There's a photo on Wiki of Whitney at night and the string of lights on the trail goes plum out of sight, is that a regular thing? I hiked the Grand Canyon in early 74 and it wasn't anything like that. Fact is coming up hardly even passed a soul, but took an off the beaten path route coming back out

I don’t live in California any more, I’m in Nevada now. It’s high desert, 4,000 to 10,000 foot in elevation. I do hunt near the state line sometimes and I can see Mount Whitney when I’m on the ridge tops but the mountains are rougher here than back in Fresno County.

But to answer your question, no I wouldn’t have went in there if I had known it would be such a pain. I couldn’t make it to where I wanted to hunt, so I turned around and found other places to get stuck lol.

A little topic change...

I wanted to circle back to your electric cooling fan Rowdy.

How is it holding up and it's performance?

I ended up pulling it off because during the summer, it wasn’t keeping up while idling up an incline in the rocks. It wasn’t over heating but I stopped a couple times to let it cool so it didn’t. I think for a street vehicle it wouldn’t be an issue. But since I’m not going fast it was struggling to move enough air. My fuel mileage has definitely dropped 3 mpg since putting the manual fan back on.
