That's awesome...

You let one ride on top to scent check things?

Thank you! Because I’m using old rusty metal and salvaging old materials, it’s taking incredibly long. I think I’m all of about $50 into it so far though.

I do, but it’s not too productive for lion hunting. They don’t put off much scent. The dogs just love it up there because they can get up and down when they want.

I've heard those tires are really good both on and off road. I almost went with them but chose an all terrain instead since I don't do much wheeling now. Can't wait to see them mounted (y)

It drives very good on the road and they’re very quiet so far. They’re doing well in the soft dirt at 20psi. I plan to drop that closer to 10 when I finish up the new dog box, fix a couple wiring gremlins and start driving it more. They’re load range E and are very stiff. I chose E’s to help prevent flats while out in the mountains.

I didn’t get to work on it as much as I wanted, but I did get a little bit done.

Off subject of some of your build but how cold is it when your hunting? Ever thought about heat in the dog box some how? I always questioned it but usually wasn't below 20 here during dog season.

In the winter it will get down to single digits. Just having a good layer of shavings or hay and being able to close up the box is sufficient. Two winters ago I put a thermometer in the box one night, while out hunting. There was 6 dogs in the box and it was over 40 deg in there while outside it was 17 deg. That was just from their body heat and partly blocking the holes. If I were to put a heater in there it may cause them to over heat I think. With this new box, I intend to build a removable canopy or tent so I can put my bedroll on it if I’m camping out. That would make it much more insulated and I will have a small electric box heater that I’ll run on the really cold nights.

I do close up the box when driving though. I feel that much wind blowing on them for a hour or two is too much. With this new box I may use conveyor belt or maybe plywood that I bolt on or screw on then take it off when I get to where I’ll be hunting. I will post pictures when I get that made.

Heck yeah man. I had had thoughts of piping heat from the exhaust system. The Articulating dump trucks at work use ambient heat off of the exhaust to prevent mud/water from freezing always questioned how to use that just never did. Nice looking box though.

I hadn’t thought about that. A guy could make a second heater box in a corner of the bed and blow it into the box. But here where I’m at, I don’t believe that I have to worry about it.

Just about done with it. I’ve gotta make a few more tabs for mounting the plywood and I’m not sure if I want to add sides or tie down in the middle. I kinda like the clean look it has now so I will probably add a couple flush mount D-rings down the middle.

I forgot to update. I made a couple adjustments to my plans. I haven’t painted it yet, I decided to use it for a little bit until I decide it’s exactly how I want it. That way I don’t go adding stuff afterwards. Put the wood on it and smashed the heck out of my finger trying to straighten it out before I put the wood on. It’s about healed up now. Still tender though.
I’ve been at work for the past week and I get off Wednesday. I have a couple things I need to do to the truck and box before I can go out hunting again. I think my charging issue might be a bad ground. I plan to add a ground from the block to the frame. Currently the battery is only grounded to the frame and I think there is only one small ground strap from the block to the firewall. Gonna add another ground and see if that fixes it. Then I need to secure the center divider in the dog box, better. The dogs already pushed the back half loose. 2 screws weren’t enough.

I added a ground wire and it’s fixed most of my troubles. All the gauges but the fuel gauge work correctly but the headlights still only work on high beam when I pull the dimmer and hold it down. I ordered a new multi function switch, drove to town to pick it up and it didn’t come in. I’m gonna go dig around to see if I have a good used one to get me by until the new one is here.

The hand has healed up nicely. Much faster than I anticipated.

It was a little warm yesterday so I waited until sun down to start working on it. I started beefing up the rear spring packs to handle the weight of my dogs and gear. Took a little longer than I anticipated. Got the passenger side done then started the driver side. Mosquitoes were pretty bad last night and I stopped working on it just before 10:00.
I figured I got around 1-1.5” of lift by adding 2 ranger leafs to the chevy leaf pack. I used the smallest and 2nd to largest leafs from the ranger leaf pack. I may pull the bed sides today and see how much clearance that adds. I cut up the sidewall of my brand new tires on the first trip because they were hitting the rear fenders.

Finished the leafs up. I gained 1” in height unloaded and it only squats about 2” loaded with all 12 of my hounds and 10 extra gallons of gas.
