Hi everyone , I'm a new member , and joined because I just purchased a 2001 Ranger 3.0 (Stepside). I do have an issue with this truck , however , I was surprised that you also have a Bronco II Forum. I also have a 1989 Bronco II with a few issues. When I start my Bronco it has plenty of oil pressure , and reads normal pressure until it gets up to full temp (not overheated). When I come to a stop the Oil Pressure gauge will go down to zero , it then will just jump up and down at idle. When I take off it goes back up to normal. Does anyone have any suggestions for a solution ? Thanks ! Jim

More then likely the sender is bad. Unless the engines making all kinds of weird noises then i would put on a real gauge and check pressure

Thanks , I have had this Bronco for about 5 years. I did replace the sending unit years ago , it did not improve. Sounds like you are saying that it could be the gauge itself and to try installing a new separate gauge (under the dash) !

No, he's talking about the sender, not the gauge. But presumably the gauge could be bad as well, you would find out if you hooked up a temporary external gauge to the connection at the block. Important to have an accurate oil pressure reading. On my '90 Bronco II, I replaced the sender and it now reads about an eighth of the gauge scale higher than with the old sender. So they're not super accurate. But yours is definitely concerning so I would check it to know for sure what your actual pressure is at present.

Shit i forgot to reply to this after i liked it.

Yes i meant the sender on the engine.

Its basically a switch impersonating a gauge. It only takes 3 psi of pressure (or 5, cant remember exactly) to make it show "normal".

I would still put a real gauge on it and see whats going on.
