Here is a fix for the wiper intermittent govenor on the 88 ranger:
1) Diagnosis- the wipers will only work in the fast position, will not park properly, no intermittent control and no constant slow speed.
2) The Fix- a quick re-solder inside the intermittent govenor.
2a) the "box" is located under the dash on the drivers middle console. It is attached to the dash support bar on the left side of the trans tunnel. Halfway up the bar is the location of the "box".
2b) Remove the two screws attaching the "box" to the bar (they are on the backside). Now you should be able to lay it on the floor.
2c) Remove the four screws that hold the "box" together, and gently pry open the case.
2d) With the wires at the top, look to the bottom left of the circuit board. The weak solder is in the middle of the bottom, furthest from the wires.
2e) Re-solder, and re-assemble. Test wipers and intermittent settings.
