A crate engine is about $6800, the wiring harnes and ECU to run it is about $1900 and change. Add tax, your over $9k. I'll be looking for a wrecked 2011 5.0 in the next year or two, for my early bronco powerplant.
The new 5.0L are nice for HP & rpm's but really lacking the torque that the 4.6's had. Always a trade off.

truck 5.0 is a 4.6 killer.....

hell its anything pre 99 killer

pound for pound dollar for dollar in stock configuration.

you have to gear it to work with 4200 rpm but 380 pounds of torque in a stock 4.6? 3 valves were what?? 330 at 4200? plus its got 70 hp....

theres rare expensive stang and marauder stuff of course.

as to the 80 stang, like mentioned it could be the junk 255, but if its a 302 its a start...possible it has a c4/c5 which is adaptable with oem parts to work with a stock ranger transfer case.

It has a C4 but I'm wondering if I can get any transfer case from pick apart that would bolt to a C4. I don't want to blow a money on new OEM parts.

dont buy nos oem parts, look around...you want a bronco 2 c5 transmission for its tail shaft and extension housing to fit an rbv case. at diy pull yards i can get these for 200 bux with t case when i can find them. which is rare to say the least.

or you have to find early bronco parts to fit a dana 20...or a whole eb setup.

or buy the parts for a 6 hole configuration of the from advanced adapters if it is still available...

part #50-8400 is for the stock ranger case...they make em for toyota and jeep cases as well....450-800 bux depending on setup.

early bronco adapter...part number 50-4200

i personally would go with a late aod and 208 or 4406manual shift t case from a fullsize ford. all easy to get and 1/2 ton rated stock parts.
