Honestly...

Itt would be better to just pull the engine. Get it on a stand and steal it up properly.

Another pic from front view. As you can see plenty of clearance between the pan in the block, but will not come out.
You uh... you should pull that out. Seems to be a lot of dirt.

Yes, even with the engine on a stand it is difficult to remove the pickup and pump but while installed in the vehicle it is way more work than pulling the engine to do this correctly.

It has been a couple days since I've done this but either the pump or the pickup must be removed to get good access to the other, which is nearly impossible to do while installed in the auto but safe to suggest impossible to do correctly while installed and should not be attempted. I performed this in an engine stand and made a mental note to NEVER EVER EVEN consider trying this while the engine is installed in the vehicle, as it took me 2 or 3 trys to figure out which way to do it correctly.

Your world will improve if you perform this process on an engine stand, dispite all that is involved with pulling the engine.
