You don't notice it much driving, but the steering column is subject to quite a bit of high frequency vibration while driving. The bolts can and occasionally do rattle loose while driving. One day, about a week after doing an under-dash repair to my 1990 F250 I pulled up to a gas pump and the column fell into my lap. I tightened those bolts back up myself, so I know it was done tight.Shop tightened up some bolts on it a while back, its loose again, thinking maybe a bolt or something might be stripped, have to check it out when I have everything torn apart.
Those bolts need thread-locker to actually stay in.
