Hi all
I am doing a 2011 4.0sohc swap in a 88 bronco 2 . Not sure the best way to go with the fuel delivery . The 88 two pump system needs 40 psi and the 2011 is requiring 60-65 psi can i install a 2000 or newer pump in the original tank and eliminate the two pump set up. Thanks Al

The easiest way to deal with fuel is to find the fuel rail from a 97 Explorer 4.0 SOHC. It will be a return style rail and will connect to your existing system with only minor modification of the connections on the truck side.

Also, if called upon to do so, the 88's high-pressure fuel pump is capable of producing around 75 PSI.

Yes, it may limit your computer choice. You might need an earlier computer, or a retune of the 11 computer.

Awesome thanks for the advice I will probably end up retuning the 2011 computer due to other issues that may come up. Thanks again Al

Most swaps I have seen are done with a OHV, what are the issues with an SOHC swap other than this one? Can't find anything on it in the Tech articles

My credo
Lead follow or get out of my way
I think why you don't see it much is simply the design of the timing chain system on the SOHC. Most folks just don't dare go there.

I know @JOLENE_THE_RANGER just did an SOHC swap in his rig. He would be a good source for hidden issues that come up in this swap.

I tried this a few years ago using an eec-iv computer and edis-6 from an ohv. Here are the issues I ran into:

It bolted right in but the y-pipe had to be customized.

It was wide enough to interfere with a non-ac air box and doing the passenger valve cover would have been very difficult. A body lift would probably fix this.

The power steering lines to hook a SOHC pump to a gear box don't exist. I ended up making one myself.

The P/S reservoir mount seemed a little tall. I made an adjustable one out of all-thread.

The timing curve is different. While mine ran it never idled well and spat flames out the tail pipe.

Other than that, if you use a Ranger intake it is not really different than going 2.9 to 4.0 ohv.

I had a height issue when engine was installed a 2" body lift was necessary to correct this. I am in the early stages of this swap and I sure I will run into more complications lol

Hi all. So far as mentioned I have installed the engine.Used the ranger block mounts for the 4.0 these needed re drilling of mount holes used the original bronco frame mounts which needed repositioning on the frame. Used a 2" body lift need an inch or better for hood to close. I also installed the 2011 dash assembly which fit in quite nicely. Here's some pics PXL_20210412_213724534.jpgPXL_20210412_213724534.jpgPXL_20210412_213624724.jpgPXL_20210412_213501906.jpgPXL_20210412_213422091.MP.jpg
