Hi, so I just installed my aftermarket Kenwood deck in my 87 Ranger. The original radio was AM only so I assume the truck had the most basic package. When I got the new deck in, I discovered that the rear speakers dont exist and I was unable to find any wiring to them. I am disappointed but I have speaker wire.

How best do I wire these back speakers in? The harness for the speakers only has 3 wires which I found strange. Usually its 2 wires per speaker but theres only 3. Do I need to pull a harness out of a scrap yard and run the wiring back?

Please shoot me some advice if you have seen this before. I was really surprised to find no wiring to the back. The speaker covers/holes are there.

The fact that there are only 3 wires coming into the speaker harness really baffled me. Must run the front on some sort of circuit??? I can post a photo if anyone wants to see it

Been looking at a lot of threads about no rear speaker wiring. Does anyone have a 87 wiring diagram for the AM only player? Anyone successfully wire rear speakers in themselves? PLZ and THX!

What colors are the wires?

Should be...

RIGHT
803 -- dark green / orange
806 -- pink / light blue

LEFT
807 -- pink / light green
801 -- pink / light blue

Why there's three, I have no idea as the diagram only shows 8 wires total for all four speakers. The AM only diagram only shows the front speakers, so it's no help really.

All of the 'AM raido' era cars I have worked on from Ford shared a ground for all the speakers.

So...1 hot for right, one hot for left, and one ground that connected to both = 3 wires

But I've been wrong before. lol

Long story short, take the interior panels out as needed, and just run new wires. You ears will thank you. :)

YES. New wires it the way to go. Rangers are pretty easy to do. My first one didn't have a radio. I added it in 3 hours including cutting out the dash for it.

Mid_TN...I'm in Watertown...where you hail from?

Back to topic...I once used a Dremel and 2 hours to flawlessly mount a modern single-DIN in a 72 Pinto wagon...bright blue, 'twas...lol

Thanks guys

Ya the single ground makes sense. I just finished moving, the end of the month was pretty hectic for me. I wired in the new radio to the 2 from speakers, when I have time, I will run speaker wires direct from the radio to the back speakers (bypassing the original harness). Thanks for the help fellas:beer:
