I can SHIFT manually into OD at Highway SPEED, ( i shift at 50mph) but it will NOT take off from a dead start IN OD,

The tranny was rebuilt, did they leave something off, or maybe VSS sensor?

Thanks for any help!

PS: Fixed a HIGH idle condition after replacing IAC valve, pulled the solenoid off O-ring was a JOKE, replaced w/fattest one i had, solved the issue! :)

Possibly one way clutch for the overdrive gear! Not real familiar with it myself! Read on another forum guy was having the exact same issue with a f-150! Had an a4ld in my 85 Bii and swapped it out for a manual 5 spd! Best thing I ever did. Mine has a 2.8 v-6 which isn’t a powerhouse with 115 hp from the factory, but with the 5 spd she does have a little a** lol. I just had to many problems with my a4ld. Thermostat stuck on me one day and never got it hot. Hand never made it over halfway up! Have no clue why, but couldn’t keep a front seal for the pump in it! Might make it 2 miles or a 100, but she wouldn’t stay in after that! After 2 time’s of pulling the transmission, I said never again!

If any automatic transmission is working correctly, one of the best inventions man ever made! Sorry to say the a4ld wasn’t one of Ford’s greatest transmission’s!

My understanding is the OD is controlled by a solenoid inside the trans. Perhaps the wiring is pooched...

OP, do you have 3 wire connector at the driver's side of the trans pan or 2? 87 was the transition year from 1 solenoid to 2.
