Hi all,

I just bought an 86 Ranger with the 2.0 engine. Currently it has the stock Motorcraft single barrel carb on it & I was wondering what 2bbl options were out there for this engine? Does the 70s pinto or mustang intake & carb fit the 2.0 engine? I was considering using this https://www.jegs.com/i/Trans-Dapt/969/2125/10002/-1 adapter I saw someone use on a 2.3 engine to convert to the Holley 5200 2bbl. Will that work on the 2.0?

My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
I believe a 2.3 manifold will work on a 2.0.

However...dont fall into the trap of over carburation. 122CID doesnt require much CFM

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
How much do you want to spend? A 1 bbl efi carb would add a nice modern touch while keeping the same spirit.

Im looking to replace my worn out carb as cheap as possible. The adapter from jegs arrived today and fits like a glove. I ordered the holley 5200 so we'll see how it mates up.

So I got it all installed & the truck runs fantastic. It all bolted up just fine & all the issues I had from the previous carb are gone. It even has a bit more power & a better sound. Was way easier to tune also but I decided to spray carb cleaner around the base gaskets on the carb & the adapter to intake & they are leaking. Its torqued snug & I used the gaskets that came with the adapter. I might try using some grease on the gaskets or some of that permetex blue gasket dressing thats fuel resistant & see if that seals it up. Otherwise I guess I need thicker better brand gaskets? All surfaces were thoroughly cleaned & tightened down. I also made sure everything fit down flush & flat before tightening.

I'd try a fatter gasket before the sillycone, glad to see the new carb has done it's job.

Would an old carb be rebuildable? I have a number of them, but not sure you would even find a kit for one any more. And they haven't really been pampered
