I desperately need to find a rear gate latch mechanism...new or used for my 84 bronco 2. Please help...I think I've looked everywhere, but hopefully there's one out there just waiting for me.

I pulled one off a 1st gen Explorer a while back I was going to use, but got lucky and found one on a Bronco 2 that was in great shape so I used it instead. So, if you can get a hold of a 91-94 Explorer you can use the mechanism off of that if you are talking about the handle part. I don't think any of the other parts will interchange though.

I just ordered a91 explorer rear gate latch....just heard that it might work by just drilling the hole a little larger...$16 bucks...I'll take the chance.

Yeah if you are talking about the handle that you turn to open the hatch, it'll work, just drill the hole out bigger so it'll fit. That's what I was going to do but got lucky and found one off a Bronco 2 that wasn't destroyed.

If it does not work out for you, let me know, because I think I am going to convert my 1985 Bronco II into a dump bed. My tailgate has the non-locking handle with the flip up glass.

I am in need of the actual latch for my 1987 lock mechanism drivers side. Any suggestions?

Did it work? I wonder if the actual latch mechanism is the same.
