Hey guys! So i have an 84 ranger with the 2.0 im curious to see what are some good options for motors to swap into it. Like what are the easiest and what are the hardest. Really not looking for crazy power just something with a bit more life!
Thanks!!

Not a whole lot of options that won't require an engine computer which takes "easiest" off the table, quite a bit of wiring added with that option

A carb/distributor 302 V8 with transmission would be easiest overall since wiring is basically the same as you have now

Only engines that match current transmission are the Lima's, like you have now, but there is the 2.3l model and it did have carb/distributor until 1988, would add 10-15horse power

My credo
Let the universe take you where it will !!!
That 2.3 is what I have in my 83 4x4, it's a total pig. Couldn't get out of its own way. On flat ground if you drive it like u stole it it will get up to highway speed eventually. Hence why I'm doing a 4.0 swap. This option is not easy alot of custom work needed. Unless you go with a carbed 302 or similar, you may be best selling your truck and buying one that came with a 2.9 or 4.0 you can swap a 4.0 into a 2.9 truck fairly easy. Or if you a masochist like me and you love your truck, hell or high water be damnd, spare no sweat or pennies. Anything is possible, just depends on your skill and will to git er done.

ive been leaning toward a carb v8, but ive also thought of buying a 2.3 and building it up a little and add a baby turbo lol
