8.8 axle question

has anyone put 31 spline axle's in an 8.8 drum axle that has 28 spline axle's or can it be done any help would be great

Only if you custom ordered the axles.

Ford 31 spline axles are 1.62" diameter at bearings;
Ford 28 spline axles are 1.40" diameter at bearings.

the axle I have came from an 03 ranger that had open diff and 4.10 gear's price was right and I had to have it as my old 7.5 exploded from the 33's I was running, I have been thinking of doing this for awhile and trying to get some info so thank's

You can't slap 31 spline axle shafts into a 28 spline unit.

If you have the WHOLE axle assembly you most certainly can just bolt that bad boy right on in there and go have fun.

Just make sure it has the same gear ratio as the front axle if you have a 4x4.

But, if it was an open rear end, then it should be a 28-spline unit. The Rangers never got a 31-spline 8.8 that didn't have some form of limited slip.

I have 31 spline shafts in my '94 Ranger 8.8". They were custom-ordered thru Moser many years ago. If I had to do it over again, I'd use an Explorer 8.8" axle instead.

yes it can be done, but it will be expensive.
Moser Engineering A31-93RANG axle set. 31 splines with the small 1.4 bearing

AND,,,,,, you'll have to replace the carrier with a 31 spline unit.
