I am wondering if a 2001 5 speed manual 4x4 4.0L will bolt into my 1990 2.9L 4x4 manual

Yes, the transmission will bolt up but make sure it's the same length, a 2.9L probably had a TK transmission instead of a M5OD like the 4.0L and in the early days there were several different lengths which affects driveline length and if you have a TK transmission and a manual transfer case the linkage is different than an M5OD not to mention around that timeframe they took the T case shifter boss off the side of the extension housing...

The transmission should be fine as long as it's from the 4.0 you referred to earlier. You may find it easier to use your existing transfer case. If you look at the front output, I'd bet it's different.

so I got the transmission in and working properly but now its not getting enough fuel pressure from what I have seen on here even tho the fuel pump is working its not producing enough fuel pressure and I am wondering if instead of pulling the pump out of the fuel tank which I really dont want to do can I add a high pressure pump like the older ones have?
