Hi all, I have a 1997 4x4 with a 5.0. I just got it on a lift today to look underneath and found something alarming. The oil pan that's on it contacts the passenger-side-tire traction beam. I'm pretty sure it is the factory oil pan on the engine from the mountaineer it came out of. So what are the best oil pan options y'all are using?

Just a thought... could you shim the engine up rather than swap the oil pan?

I doubt it, there's not much clearance as is, maybe if I went with a cowl hood....

What does the pan look like?

Most run a dual sump pan like from a foxbody Mustang (and a bunch of other 80's cars) in TIB/TTB trucks.

I don't think the Explorer pan comes close to fitting. My engine has a fair amount of shimming and there is no way it would come close to fitting in mine.

You were right, I looked again and it was indeed a foxbody dual sump pan. I'm a GM guy at heart and this is my first Ford, so it's been a learning curve. I think I have a little wiggle room to take the engine up about an inch and a half. So I guess that's the route I'll go. I bought the truck after the swap had been done and have been correcting mistakes along the way. So I'm not surprised by this. Thanks for the input y'all!

I'm running a Ford Racing dual sump oil pan kit on mine. I "believe" I bought it from Summit Racing.

If you're up to paying the shipping cost, I have a dual sump pan off a 1990 Lincoln Town Car I'd be willing to donate. Just let me know!

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.

Are you intetested in getting rid of the pan yet? I am trying to do a swap, and the original pan from the 1994 f150 donor does not clear the I beams.
Also, when switching to a dual sump, do you need to buy an oil pickup line and dipstick?

The pan is still available if you need it.

For $75 I'll send you a dual sump pan (used), new oil pickup tube, new dipstick assembly, new one-piece oil pan gasket, and new oil pan bolts. This also includes shipping.

If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?

Two things: (1)raising the engine will change the driveline angles and likely cause vibrations.
(2) Now that you own a Ford you will be allowed to buy men's clothing, congratulations.

Ok, I would take you up on that, but iI had gotten impatient, and bought a pan and sump pickup.
