Okay guy and gals, I have a question. I am new to therangerstation and am hoping someone has an answer or easier solution to the project I have going on. Here are the facts:
I have the 96 Ranger 3.0 with the standard tranny and 4WD.
I purchased a 99 explorer 5.0 and kept the engine, tranny and EMS to swap into the ranger.
I would like to get rid of the AWD and keep it a standard. The plan is to swap in the 5.0 and delete the transmission codes from the EMS.
Where I am stuck and need help is with transmission choice. I was told the only transmission that was configured to a 4WD would be the ZF6. Because the T5 and T56 would not be able to withstand the load. If I use the ZF6, What bellhousing bolt pattern do I need for it to bolt up to the 99 5.0 V8?

Thanks for your help!

A ZF is HUGE, you would need one from a 5.8. Probably will need a bodylift and may be looking at floorpan mods to boot.

I am going M5R2 myself.

My credo
Break it right the first time. Fix it better the next time.

I'm using the M5ODR2 from a 1994 F150/5.0 truck. Although the shifter is close to the dash it does not touch it. With a 3" BL I managed to get my engine positioned so the original transmission mount is used with no modifications and the rear drive shaft from a 2000 extra-cab worked with no mods. So, it's possible--but maybe I just got lucky. BTW the flat steel motor mounts allowed me to get it in that position.

This.

My dad's 250 has a ZF5, and that is a tight fit.

Thanks Faskpakr, you are totally right. Ill just have to find the right M50D-R2 and then use a SCT Tuner to take care of the setting the new tune. I have a guy who can write a tune to basically eliminate the auto codes.

In my 90 2wd I was using a m5r2 and with a little bending of the shifter handle. It’s really no big deal. I’d assume the 97 and up would be a better fit. But the 88-96 ones fit and work fine.
