I wreck my 92 Ranger 4.0 5 speed. The frame was bent and I'm looking for a frame. Do I have to go back with the same truck frame or can I use a 4.0 4x2 or a 3.0 4X4 or both? I know the suspension is different. So does it have to be a 4.0 4X4 frame? Thanks.

The engine doesn't matter one bit.

Obviously the body configuration and wheel base are important. 4x4 or not is just as important.

The engine cross member, which is also where the beams mount, is drastically different. It's also riveted AND welded to the rails. It can be swapped, and while everything is off the frame is the time to do it, but it is a colossal pain in the ass.
