I have an 88 (2.9L) 4wd and was just gifted an 84 ranger (2.3L) 4wd. I want to convert the 84 ranger to 2wd and build it to be a mini truck.

so my question is, what would that entail? Is it pretty strait forward

Thanks

never push the 4hi or 4lo button and you will have a 2wd :)

if you want to get rid of all of the 4x4 stuff, that will take a bit. the 2wd version has a completely different front end and even the frames are different. a lot of work to go the mini truck route especially if you are going to lower it.

something to think about, your 2.3 l 4x4 is a bit of a rare bird, you might be able to sell or come out ahead on a trade for 2wd ranger and not have to deal with it.. you will likely need to buy another ranger as a parts truck to make this swap even feasible.

I didn't ask for your life story, just answer the question!
The main engine/suspension crossmember is different between 2wd and 4wd. It can be swapped, but it’s not a simple process.

dang, I didn’t realize they’re different frames and I thought the 2.3 was a little out of place on a 4x4 lol. Makes sense on it being a rare one.
Thanks for the help!
