A few years ago, a guy I was aquainted with did something similar.
He was building his own garage at the time and need a crane. He fabed a mount for the front of his Jeep that would accept a 10' extension ladder. He then drilled and braced the top step for a pulley. He threaded his winch cable through the pulley. Then he raised the ladder and tied it off to the roll-cage with a couple of 1/4" cables. The ladder leaned out from the Jeep about 20°.
When he had the trusses delivered he just hooked up a truss to the "crane" and reeled in the winch cable. The truss lifted into the air. When the truss cleared the walls, he could just drive the Jeep onto the concret foor of the garage, lower and set the truss in place.
Haveing seen that, and now this... I'm going to do something similar. I've a 2" receiver on my Ranger for a snow sport plow. I think I'm going to fab a mount for my warn winch and install it in that receiver when the plow's not installed. That way I can move heavier items around with ease.
Thanks for the great idea.
