Hello,
I recently finished a rebuild on my 2001 ford rangers transmission after the reverse brand broke. I replaced all the seals, O-rings, Bands Clutches, Steel Clutch plates, VB gaskets, and got the TC rebuilt. The issue that i noticed right off the bat after the tranny was reinstalled was that reverse would engage and the truck would move but extremely weak almost as if the pressure is just barely enough to push the reverse servo piston enough to fully engage the reverse band. Even if you apply throttle theres no change in power/ movement. The truck drives fine while its cold but once the transmission reaches OT (after about 10-15min) of driving it starts sliping from 2-3,3-4 will get stuck in gears and just be pretty much undrivable. Before the trans was pulled it drove fine no slipping the occasional 2-3 flare would arrise but nothing that made me suspect anything wrong.
I made sure that the TC was seated correctly before install. and that i flushed out the lines and the cooler. I know the pump is working as the fluid level drops to the hot mark when its at OT and theres fluid circulating to the trans cooler. I also adjusted the bands according to the manual and im just a little confused at to what could be causing the low fluid pressure. Now when its cold it drives fine. reverse is still sluggish but theres at least some power when the throttle is applied.
I purchased a new EPC solenoid as i read its a common issue when it comes to these transmissions and the 2-3 flare. i also picked up a new reverse servo piston since the reverse band broke upon engagement and the piston could be damaged bit visibly it looked fine. If the new RS and EPC solenoid dont fix the issue it might start looking like the TC was rebuilt properly or somehow the oil pump is shot but ill need to get some pressure readings off the trans to confirm my suscpsions. I just wanted to see if anyone has any input on what the culprit could be. I would very much appreciate it. Also i followed the ATSG manual.
