This is getting aggravating....

97 F250 HD 460/auto 2wd.

Every year for the past 3 years when it gets hot my 460 will burn the boot up on the #8 plug wire.

I attributed it to the cracked manifold, but i got that fixed recently, and it did it again.

In the past it was after towing my camper in blazing heat...

This time it was idling in the parking lot with the air on for 10-15 mins while the wife hung out in it while i ran in to get a saw sharpner....

My question is...WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? Cheap plug wires? Engine running lean? (No codes or nothing), or is it just a 460 thing?

I just went and bought a set of standard brand plug wires (60 bucks, instead of the 20 dollar o reiley cheapos i usually run), and some boot wraps....

But if theres something else i need to address id like to know.

Input?

Put a heat sleeve on it? Cheap plugs will melt faster, my duratec melted wires and they are on top not near the exhaust... use good wires and these.

Aftermarket parts have gotten crappier in the past 30 years. What you bought in 1990 is 147,000% better than what's sold today unless you buy OEM. Parts stores are for buying motor oil and brake clean.... real parts, you buy motorcraft online.

Changed the wires today....put socks on cylinder 4 and 8.

Look at the difference in the cheap wires vs the pricy ones...

Done told you... cheap parts suck balls. Buy motorcraft! Or with older stuff like yours go with big name aftermarket companies like accell or msd. Off brand auto parts store wires are chinese crap.

You can tell the grey plug wire is high temp silicone, the other one is thin rubber garbage.

We'll try these. If they burn up ill get motorcrafts.

I got the same o reiley cheapos on rusty....thats getting a set of motorcrafts when i do the plugs again in next few weeks.

I was gonna get MSDs but they were 140 bucks, these were 60. The guy at auto value (i know him well, he knows his shit) says hes ran these standard brand on his 460s and never had an issue.
