4.88 gear issue

any one ever run into a problem with installin 4.88s in a explorer 8.8 axle? me an a buddy are regearing my axle from 4.56 to 4.88. old pinion shim was .035 or so and carrier shims were the stock ones from the 4.10 gears. well we ran all those shims inplace to get a rough idea.. way to much couldnt even move it... so weve been messing with it for a few hrs.. almost seems like the pinion has to have about .060 to be close.. to me that seems a bit excessive.... this isnt our first rodeo.. about 8-10 axles have been regeard with fantastic results.

gear swaps work like that... sometimes they just don't go right.
just keep at it and you'll get it worked out. Sometimes you need to just walk away and get back at it later.
