4.56 gears in a 7.5 with a lockrite

I think I just used the red cutting wheels, I use those for almost everything... but one of the bigger orange stones would work just fine too.

Where those 5.13 gears ina 7.5? You must have had to cut a ton to get that pin out!

I like the top picture better. But, like someone said above, we're limited to the view we get in these pictures.

You don't want to grind into the contact patch. But a tiny bit won't hurt too bad. The way these gears work, the contact between gears occurs on several teeth simultaneously. Furthermore, you don't use reverse as much as forward and rarely as much torque in reverse as in forward. So concentrate on saving the forward contact patch more than the reverse.

Cleanliness is your big concern now. You don't want metal filings in there when you're finished.

My 5.13's are in an Explorer 8.8, so it's much less material... I thought I had a picture, but apparently not.

Well, I had to choose the side where I needed to grind two teeth. The other side would have required a lot more material to be used. Here are some shots before I brake cleaned it (so no yelling about the dust on the gear!). Had to take a lot more than I wanted to!

It's kinda scary grinding into gears. I have reused things I shouldn't have at times, gears with chipped teeth and rust pits etc...so far they've held up...yours will be fine!

Let me know how it drives, I'm literally doing the same thing to my 09 in about a month. The gears and lockrite have been sitting on my shelf all winter. I have factory 4.10s but going from 27" to 30" tires and didn't wanna risk loosing a shred of power since I have a 4 cylinder. 4.56 brings it back to just a tad lower ratio than stock. If my math is right it will be the equivalent of 4.30 gears with the new tires.

Will do! I am about three weeks out from completion. Waiting on a duff stage one package. Then it is reassembly time. I am running 33s with a very tired 2.9.

So, C-Clips! It turns out that I couldn't get the last c-clip in, it was just too tight. If I take the trust washers out I can barely get the C-clip in. I am assuming that I can't run this set-up with the thrust washers taken out, can I? I can't imagine that thinner washers would work, as I can barely install the c-clip with no washers at all. Help would be greatly appreciated!

Just re-read the manual and it says I need them. Guess I have to grind them down or find thinner ones. We shall see...I'll keep ya'll posted.
