Whos "We"? Seems like youre the only one arguing your "useful information". So, Plum exactly what is the distance between 1st and 2nd gear on your homemade shifter? I know how many inches a stock shifter is and how many inches a Hurst shifter is. Lets see how good your math is lol.

I'll let you know as soon find my drawings. They are on my laptop at home.

What year are you basing your "stock" measurement on?

By "we" I was referring to the other 3 members also discussing the boosted 4.0 powerplant.

Lol dont worry about it if you need your laptop to tell you how long the throw is. Tape measure young fella ;)
Sorry for going off topic on your thread Danger Ranger. I just dont like people who pat themselves on the back. Good luck with your Ranger build!

Im not flexible enough to pat my own back. College and too much Chipotle has taken its toll.

My truck is in a cold garage and torn apart...so tape measure is not an option.

I just don't like people who are dicks.

Anyways. I suppose this thread pretty is much ruined...sorry OP.

Ok members, ya'll made your point. Lets not go all pirate here.
Yes, the 95 heads combined with the 94 pistons would raise compression. Its possible that Allen was thinking the 94 heads were less prone to cracking and was thinking of combining that with the 95 block, but came out backwards.

I plan to use a complete 97, which I feel is the best choice for the head design. I will have piston cooling and water meth to aid in preventing detonation and piston meltdown. I already have a complete 4.0 SOHC so I'll be using that as parts for the bottom end...

Wow

Thanks for the responses, I have alot of thinkin to do, and money to make!
On eBay there's aftermarket early heads with a heavier cast?!? Get exhaust ported?
Can the 92 motor be converted to obd2?
How would I convert to obd2?
Swap newer 4.0l with all wiring n ecu?
If Ima do that I might just throw a 302 with the Vortech in!

Converting to OBD2 is fairly easy, just swap the engine harness & ecu out for a 95+...

02 sensors?? Egr valve?? I only have one O2 And no egr

Would it run the same in a 92 motor, soon as I plugged it in, or would I need a tune?

EGR could be eliminated with a tune (which is what makes OBD 2 nice)...you will be adding an 02 for each bank. Once again, the downstream 02 can be eliminated with a tune.

It can run on the 92 motor, iirc some OBD2 4.0's did not have egr, so both types were available. You will either need to add in O2 sensors, or install OBD2 exhaust, which would be a great time to upgrade if your running stock pipes...

Sweet, im defiantly gonna do this.
I just have one problem... I have a couple broken header bolts on both sides.. Actually all tops 6 bolts except for one! So I really don't want to touch my exhaust anymore until I replace my heads so I can have a forsure 100% seal. I know one side is sealed with 3 bolts n it's 100% sealed but other side might have a very small leak u can't even hear it!! I would get them tapped but it's the same price as a pair of new heads! So when I get the money I'm ordering these heads off eBay and headers, and when I do that I'll convert to obd2!

Cool project! I got a 2001 4.0 SOHC with eaton M90 at around 6 lbs of boost.
Tuned it myself with a Tweecer. My sleeper of a truck surprises most when I get into it!:icon_thumby:

Sounds like a cool project. I am actually interested in better economy, rather than power. Which is why I was hoping that mine would have the 3.0 in it. Apparently they didn't put that engine in the ext. cab 4x4 so, I'm stuck with dealing with the 4.0. I know a turbo with a lower boost in the 6-9 range can help economy, but I'm not sure I want to put taht much money in it. Fun to consider options, tho'.
